  • Job Title: Budgeting and Financial Awareness Adviser
  • Responsible to: CEO
  • Hours of Work: 37 hours per week
  • Term: Fixed Term contract until June 2023 (possible extension subject to securing additional funding)
  • Salary: £22000 per annum
  • Location: Borough of Great Yarmouth
  • Key Purpose: The Budgeting and Financial Awareness Adviser will be an integral part of the DIAL team and the services we provide to our community. Working from our office in Great Yarmouth and outreaching across our community, the post holder will provide support to people to develop their financial resilience.
    The Budgeting and Financial Awareness Adviser will:
  • Provide professional and impartial information and advice to beneficiaries regarding all aspects of budgeting and money saving hints and tips.
  • Be an advocate for people they support working to ensure that the individual has the knowledge and financial understanding to enable them to budget and make financial choices in the future.
  • Be flexible in providing outreach support to the local community and schools outside of normal working hours, including weekends as and when required.
  • Main Tasks:
  • To provide face to face advice and digital support on budgeting and money saving tips.
  • To provide information to allow clients to make choices as to the options available when looking at switching utility providers.
  • To provide advice and support using dedicated digital and social media methodologies.
  • To provide budgeting workshops to schools and community groups both face to face and via digital channels.
  • To provide advice and support to community groups to improve their digital abilities.
  • To assist clients to develop and improve their digital ability to reduce annual renewal switching.
  • To recruit 10 mentors from the business community to support young people with budgeting when moving into employment for the first time.
  • To refer and signpost clients as and when identified, for specialist support.
  • To network and liaise with other agencies to promote DIAL’s services.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge about money saving ideas, best deals etc.
  • To maintain accurate and timely records, monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to the CEO, Trustees of DIAL, funders, and all other stake holders.
  • Build and establish working relationships with the client group based on trust and mutual respect.
  • To liaise and build effective networks to develop strong working partnerships across the Borough.
  • To attend and contribute to meetings as and when necessary, throughout the term of the project.
  • To undertake home visits and work at various locations across the Borough as and when required.
  • To always adhere to the policies and procedures of DIAL Gt Yarmouth.
  • To undertake training as and when necessary, to develop the specialist knowledge and expertise necessary to the role.
  • To undertake additional duties as and when necessary, to maintain delivery of the service.
  • Partnerships:
  • To work closely with local communities, schools, and other statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • To develop and maintain new relationships with both the voluntary and statutory sector.
  • Knowledge:
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of changes that may affect household finances of clients, including increases by utility providers, credit cards and loan companies.
  • To develop knowledge of local provision offered by statutory and voluntary providers that can be used to help meet additional needs of clients.
  • Reporting:
  • To attend and contribute to regular meetings and to represent the Lottery funded Project and DIAL Great Yarmouth
  • To provide performance management reports and data as required by the funding body, management team and Trustee Board.
  • Internal
  • To act as an ambassador for DIAL Great Yarmouth promoting the services and activities that we provide.
  • To undertake additional tasks as and when required which may be allocated by the CEO or other members of the management team.
  • To attend DIAL Great Yarmouth staff meetings on a fortnightly basis to report on the Project.

Experience and Qualifications Essential or Desirable
Experience of support work with disadvantaged groups D
Experience of delivering workshops and training D
Experience of multi-agency and partnership working. D
Experience of community outreach or engagement work. D
Experience supporting clients to budget and manage finances. D
A degree/relevant professional qualification. D
Skills Knowledge Essential or Desirable
Awareness of financial landscape for money saving ideas and deals. D
Exceptional motivational skills with the ability to inspire others. E
Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills. E
Excellent digital, computer and IT skills. E
Ability to manage under pressure and complete work within timescales set. E
Effective and methodical record-keeping, competent at producing reports and evidencing progress towards agreed targets. E
Good knowledge and awareness of other service providers across the Borough. D
