What we do

DIAL also has fully qualified Money and Debt Advisors qualified up to Debt Relief Order Level supporting people who have financial issues by providing budgeting support, setting up of manageable repayment plans, and liaising with creditors. Our knowledgeable staff are able to provide information and advice on a wide range of issues including housing, other support services and much more.

Organisational Background

As a UK registered independent Charity, DIAL has been providing accredited information, advice and guidance since 1985 and we are proud of our journey and our achievements. From humble beginnings, we have worked hard to develop our reputation for being at the heart of our local community and providing responsive, innovative and impactful services. When we opened our doors in 1985, we were driven by a mission to provide fair and impartial advice to people who were often excluded from mainstream services. Supported by a dedicated group of volunteers and a charity shop, our early work focused on helping people with disabilities to have a voice and to access the support they need.

It wasn’t until 2008 that we began to employ paid staff to work alongside our team of volunteers. This coincided with the financial crash and meant that we needed to grow to respond to higher levels of demand. The rise in complex cases led to us being awarded Financial Conduct Authority Accreditation (FCA). We have since achieved Matrix standard, which supports us to invest in our workforce, our approach and to further develop our partnerships with communities, users and agencies.

Today, we offer a growing portfolio of multidisciplinary services including 1-2-1 personal support for people who need something just a bit more to help them overcome personal difficulties. This often includes navigation through what can be a complicated system of support! Today, we offer a range of different services for people and details of these can be found here on this very website!

Our office space in Great Yarmouth has developed into a thriving community hub that plays hosts to community groups and partners from across the voluntary sector. Through flexible face to face, digital and telephone support, in both 1-2-1 and group settings, DIAL provides advice and information to over 12000 residents on average each year. In 2019/2020, our support resulted in £2.5 million additional income for our clients.

  • Our Volunteers

DIAL truly exists in large part because of our team of volunteers. We have around 20 volunteers who put their time and skills in many different ways to which we are continually grateful for. Our volunteers are essential to our work and support all our services. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and get involved in your local community. Below are some of our volunteers. If you want to join our team of volunteers then please click on either of the two buttons below.
